Interventional Radiology Consultant

Responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of interventional radiology procedures, including both vascular and non-vascular interventions, in alignment with the highest NHS and industry standards.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including surgeons, oncologists, and primary care physicians, to deliver integrated and holistic care plans for NHS patients.
- Lead clinical assessments and provide specialised opinions regarding minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic options.
- Utilise imaging technology (e.g., MRI, CT, Ultrasound) to guide procedures and ensure the best patient outcomes.
- Actively participate in case conferences, sharing insights and contributing to NHS clinical excellence and decision-making processes.
- Maintain compliance with NHS and national regulations, hospital policies, and patient privacy requirements (e.g., GDPR).
- Supervise and provide mentorship to junior doctors, radiology trainees, and other team members, fostering professional development across NHS staff.
- Lead or contribute to quality improvement initiatives and NHS research projects within the field of interventional radiology.
Qualifications
- Medical Degree with completion of specialty training in Radiology followed by subspecialty training in Interventional Radiology.
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with inclusion on the Specialist Register for Clinical Radiology or eligibility for entry within six months.
- Demonstrable experience in performing both vascular and non-vascular interventional procedures at a consultant level.
- Proficiency in the use and interpretation of advanced imaging technologies, including but not limited to MRI, CT, and Ultrasound.
- Strong decision-making and analytical skills to evaluate complex clinical situations under NHS standards and protocols.
- Exemplary oral and written communication skills to work effectively and collaboratively in a team-oriented and patient-focused NHS environment.
- A strong commitment to providing equitable, patient-centred care across diverse communities.
- Evidence of continuous professional development and an eagerness to stay abreast of advancements in interventional radiology.
Day-to-day
- Perform scheduled interventional radiology procedures with precision, upholding the highest standards of care within the NHS.
- Conduct pre-procedural consultations and provide post-operative follow-ups, ensuring continuity and quality of care for NHS patients.
- Review and interpret diagnostic imaging results to inform NHS-approved treatment plans and decision-making.
- Coordinate with nursing staff, radiology teams, and other referring physicians to effectively manage patient treatment pathways.
- Participate in emergency on-call rotations for urgent interventional procedures as required by NHS commitments.
- Lead and contribute to regular departmental meetings, clinical audits, and multidisciplinary discussions to enhance NHS service delivery.
- Mentor and supervise junior doctors, healthcare professionals, and medical students, contributing to skills development within the NHS network.
- Actively participate in NHS-driven research, audits, and initiatives to support innovation in interventional radiology and enhance patient outcomes.
