Job Title: Phlebotomist (Locum)

Location: GP Surgery, Norfolk
Duration: 2–3 days per week for 3 weeks
System Used: SystmOne

Job Overview

We are seeking a competent and reliable Phlebotomist to support a busy GP surgery in Norfolk on a short-term locum basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a high-quality venepuncture service while ensuring patient care, safety, and accurate record-keeping using SystmOne.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform venepuncture on a wide range of patients, including adults and children where appropriate

• Accurately label, handle, and prepare blood samples for laboratory collection

• Use SystmOne to check patient records, request forms, and document procedures

• Ensure correct patient identification and adherence to infection prevention and control guidelines

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised clinical environment

• Manage workload efficiently during busy clinics

• Provide reassurance and support to anxious patients

• Report any issues, incidents, or abnormal findings to the clinical team

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Phlebotomist within a GP surgery or primary care setting

• Competence in using SystmOne

• Excellent venepuncture skills with a high success rate

• Good communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

• Knowledge of infection control and patient safety standards

• Valid DBS (preferred)

• Up-to-date mandatory training and immunisations

Working Pattern

• 2–3 days per week (flexible days)

• Short-term role for 3 weeks

Desirable Skills

• Experience working in NHS GP practices

• Confidence managing high patient volumes

• Experience with paediatric blood draws
