Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate, person-centered care to patients, respecting their individuality, choices, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Assist patients with daily activities such as washing, dressing, mobility, and meals.
  • Perform basic medical tasks under the supervision of clinical staff, such as checking vital signs (e.g., temperature, pulse, and blood pressure).
  • Support healthcare practitioners, including nurses and allied health professionals, in delivering high-quality care and treatment plans.
  • Maintain clear and accurate documentation and records pertaining to patient care.
  • Respond promptly and sensitively to patients' needs and concerns, fostering a safe and comfortable care environment.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, infection prevention protocols, and ethical practices.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay informed about best practices in patient care.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a Healthcare Assistant or similar role is advantageous but not essential; training will be provided.
  • A recognized certification in healthcare or allied health is preferred (e.g., NVQ in Health and Social Care, or equivalent).
  • Genuine enthusiasm and commitment to providing high-quality patient care.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • A caring, empathetic, and patient-centered attitude toward care delivery.
  • Ability to work as part of a team while also maintaining initiative in individual tasks.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required.

Day-to-day

On a typical day, you can expect to:

  1. Support Patients: Provide hands-on care tailored to the needs of each patient, ensuring their comfort and independence.
  2. Collaborate with Care Teams: Work alongside nursing, allied health, and clinical staff to support the delivery of care plans.
  3. Monitor and Document: Track patients' progress, report changes in their conditions, and maintain accurate records.
  4. Prepare and Assist: Ensure patients and the environment are ready for treatments or medical procedures.
  5. Emphasize Compassion: Engage with patients in a comforting and respectful manner, ensuring their dignity is upheld at every interaction.
  6. Maintain Safety: Follow infection control procedures and promote a clean, safe, and hygienic environment.
